Day 6 - Grignano to the end of Italy (San Bartolomeo) via Trieste

In which our intrepid explorers are mistaken for international terrorists, narrowly escape arrest and finally make it against all the odds to the End of Italy...

weather: sunny, fairly cool, light SW wind.
Set out and carefully start to skirt marine reserve at Grignano, which appears to be quite excessively guarded by 2 policemen on jetskis with stylish shades and a coastguard vessel. head towards Trieste and it dawns on us that actually they aren't guarding the reserve at all but the castle behind it: it is the G8 summit and no doubt someone rather important is staying there.

Reach Trieste quickly, look at some derelict harbour structures and start heading in to land and look at the rather fine, historic waterfront. Instantly find ourselves surrounded by hostile and armed coastguard and police boats and told in no uncertain terms we are not to stop in Trieste. anywhere. Ask if this is because G8 and are told that it is.

Beat a hasty retreat with armed escort (and some additional observers) who continue to see us off the premises until we go and hide in what unfortunately turns out to be a private swimming area located at the back of the container port, but where we at least get a decent cup of Illy espresso. out again next to the big breakwaters outside the main cargo docks, to find we are still under observation, so we do our very best not to act suspiciously, head politely round the corner to the last campsite in Italy were we can finally get out and relax. that'll be another blacklist I've got myself on in a boat!
